Household Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) refers to substances that, when used, stored, handled, or disposed of improperly, pose a risk to people or the environment. These materials are any leftover household products that may contain reactive, corrosive, ignitable, or toxic ingredients. Many household products fit this category. This includes everything from pesticides to cleaners to batteries and even some light bulbs. See Acceptable Materials for a complete list.
How To Identify HHW:
Read the label. Look for the signal words, "Danger, Poison, Warning, Caution, Flammable, Caustic, Preservative".
What can I do with my Household Hazardous Waste?
Each year from May - October, the Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority holds collections for Household Hazardous Wastes. These collection events are open to any resident in Marquette County, free of charge!
By appointment, Marquette County Residents may deliver their household hazardous waste to the Marquette County Landfill during regular business hours: Monday-Friday 7 A.M. - 3 P.M. In order to provide efficient service, please contact us in advance at 249-4125 to schedule a delivery. Same day service is available.

What can I do with hazardous waste from my business?
Once a year the Marquette County Landfill holds a hazardous waste collection for Marquette County businesses. Any businesses with hazardous waste should contact the Marquette County Landfill at (906) 249-4125 to be put on the contact list for the annual Business Hazardous Waste collection. Businesses can also email the Marquette County Landfill at firstname.lastname@example.org with “Business Hazardous Waste Collection” in the subject line. Please include what type(s) of waste you have, the quantity, your business name, contact name and a phone number where you can be reached. We will send you a confirmation email to let you know that it was received and you will be called when the annual collection has been scheduled.
